WHAT TO SEE IN ÁBALOS
Bodegas Alonso González is located in the small town of Ábalos (La Rioja Alta), a privileged area for wines, both for its climate and for its land and location, protected under the beautiful Sierra de Cantabria. One of the main attractions of Ábalos is its urban area, which preserves an important architectural heritage of palaces and ancestral homes, and its natural environment, surrounded by innumerable vineyards. Not surprisingly, wine, the production of which has been the livelihood of its inhabitants since pre-Roman times, is a further incentive for visitors to get to know the town and its wineries. La Rioja, land of wine, has a lot to offer to travelers: nature, history and gastronomy, which make its towns unique.
'CHOZOS' OR 'GUARDAVIÑAS'
In these typical constructions from very remote times, winegrowers and their working animals took refuge when the weather conditions demanded. ROCK LAGARES, these structures excavated in the rock, and always close to the vineyards, have been used since ancient times to tread the grapes, decant and extract the wort, that was later transported to the family wineries.
